When you are fortunate enough to meet Babiya Polk, you will be pleased to find a sincere, delightful and caring Independent Sales Representative for American Family Life Assurance Company, better known as Aflac.

Born in Kayunga, Uganda, Babiya’s life was forever changed when she came to The United States at the age of 10. Both Babiya and her younger brother were raised by their Grandmother for four years after their parents had to flee Uganda, as political refugees. When Babiya was re-united with her parents in Kent, Ohio via the aid of The Red Cross, she did not even know one word of English.

“When I started school, I was very scared. But the school system connected me with a “buddy ” and the counselors were very involved with my classes and progress. Both my Mom and Dad were instrumental in teaching me English as well, as my Mom was a school teacher,” shares Babiya. “My initial intentions were to obtain a Nursing Degree from The Ohio State University, but family obligations came first, and as the oldest of six children, I needed to care for my five younger brothers.”

Babiya was able to re-engage her education and attended Franklin University and graduated with a Bachelors Degree in Public Administration. A nurturing nature has always been prevalent during Babiya’s work history, as she has been around the hospital environment in patient care technology at The Ohio State University James Cancer Hospital, as well as Human Resource positions at both The Ohio State University Hospital and at Children’s Hospital. As life would evolve full circle, Babiya also worked for The Red Cross assisting with Blood Drives and contacting existing donors, before she found ‘home’ with Aflac, as an Independent Sales Representative in June of 2010.

Aflac was founded over 50 years ago by three brothers, The Amos Brothers, because they witnessed first-hand how the entire financial security of a family was eliminated when the breadwinner was diagnosed with cancer and could no longer provide for his family. Therefore, Aflac’s policyholders are treated in an ethical and fair manner, with their best interests at heart. The supplemental insurance offered by Aflac is not intended to replace Major Medical Insurance, but to fill in the gaps and provide additional peace of mind.

Being affiliated with a company that has been named to Ethisphere’s list of World’s Most Ethical Companies seven years in a row, FORTUNE’S list of 100 Best Companies to Work For for 13 consecutive years, and FORTUNE’S list of World’s Most Admired Companies 10 times is a set of credentials that Babiya is very proud to be associated with. “I love to stay in contact with my clients even when there are no claims or immediate issues that need addressed. My clients can call me anytime…and I really encourage them to call me instead of the toll-free number. If my clients call the corporate office in Columbus, Georgia, that means I am not doing my job.”

Babiya’s journey to arrive where she is currently, is a testament to her strong work ethic, very high morals and personal ethics along with her extremely caring, helpful nature. Providing Life, Health & Disability Supplemental coverage is the core product which Babiya offers; but, when she discovers that unbeknownst to her, she has done something good for someone else….she truly has had a great day!
